I did not know the background to the stag at first, so thanks to you John. Once I understood that it was by William Bloye, one of Birmingham’s most important twentieth-century sculptors, responsible for the Boulton, Watt and Murdoch statue and major Art Deco work, the issue became obvious. This was not decoration, it was integrated architectural sculpture. Its destruction is a serious loss to the city’s cultural heritage. Why did the city allow this? It's cultural vandalism.

Destroying William Bloye's Art deco leaping stag is a crime for the city's heritage and art in general. He was the sculptor of the Boulton, Watt & Murdoch statue and many art deco pieces that stand with the world's best. See the Wiki page on him..
